Nutrition
We recognise that diet and nutrition are important to everyone and as such our residents are provided with an extensive choice of well balanced and nutritional meals. Our cordon bleu cook is available to plan individual menus with each resident and will facilitate cooking if a resident wishes to cook.
Meals range from a choice of cooked breakfast sourced from local fresh suppliers, to a three course lunch with choice from a sweet trolley and a variety of support option. In addition snacks and drinks are provided regularly to supplement the three meals of the day.
Afternoon tea is a speciality where residents are encouraged to bake cakes or simply enjoy those baked by our cook. All special diets are catered for.
Camplehaye House is run under the close supervision of our registered manager who is supported by a deputy manager who is supported by a deputy manager and a 24 hour care team comprising of carers trained to NVQ level 2 or 3. They are supplemented by ancillary staff to ensure the home is kept clean and the laundry is run efficiently. Residents will be registered with local GP's and supported by DN's who visit regularly. All our senior carers are trained in accordance with Boots monitored dosing system to ensure the safe administration of medicines prescribed by GP's.
Angela Rippon OBE expressed her special thanks to Avens Care Homes for the excellent care and support given to her own mother, who was resident at Camplehaye Residental Home. She explained how important it was "to have confidence in knowing that those looking after your loved ones, really know what they are doing and that you trust them to give the love and care , you, yourself would want to give".
Activities
Specialist individual activities are organised by support staff and residents are encouraged to participate as much as they wish within the local community. Our daily activities programme includes crafts, games, armchair exercise and music or trips out in our minibus. As well as a fully assessed plan of care each resident has a activity plan which aims to tailor activities to individual hobbies and past interests. Birthdays are celebrated and other events include barbecues, garden parties, fireworks night, Easter and Christmas parties. We have visiting entertainers such as musicians, the donkey sanctuary as well as other health professionals. These include chiropodist, physios, opticians, audiologists, beauticians, hairdressers and dentists.
As well as our own book and dvd library the mobile library service and book club visit regularly. Local Anglican, RC and ministers visit Camplehaye regularly and also hold our own services at special times of the year - Christmas/Easter. We welcome all faiths and where possible try to facilitate residents to attend local services.
